Meadow Fresh NZ Barista Champion 2020 will represent NZ in Athens 2021.

Event Date: 4th August, 2020

Dear coffee community

We have some exciting news to announce in regards to the upcoming Meadow Fresh NZ Barista Championship 2020 (MFNZBC 2020) in September, and our current Latte Art and Cup Tasters Champions. The NZSCA is all about promoting specialty coffee, community and competition. And we want to celebrate.

The MFNZBC 2020 will go ahead in September. We continue to closely monitor the current situation. During our recent AGM, we discussed this unprecedented and constantly changing situation with our members and felt the support from the community.

The World Coffee Events that are scheduled to occur are World Latte Art and World Cup Tasters Championship’s in Warsaw, Poland this October and World Barista Championship in Melbourne this November. Even if the events do proceed, there are concerns about the health and safety of our representatives. All parties, including our generous and understanding Sponsors and the Champions concerned, have been consulted as we looked at options of how to proceed fairly.

Therefore, we have now made the decision to follow the lead of other countries and use this situation to hold our Championships a year in advance. Our competitors, sponsors, judges and volunteers will have more flexibility in their calendars. Most importantly this extra time will give our Champions far more preparation time prior to the world event, something that is often in short supply after winning the New Zealand event.

Our 2020 Barista Champion will now compete for a place in the 2021 World Championship in Athens, Greece, June 24-26 2021.

Our 2020 NZ Cup Tasters Champion, Alan Bruce of Flight Coffee Roasters will also compete in Athens 2021 and our Meadow Fresh NZ Latte Art Champion, Hoony Chae of Mojo Coffee Cartel will compete in 2021 at the World event, TBC.

We say: “Bring on September” and all that the MFNZBC2020 embodies. Entry will reopen shortly.
